Yes, this book is the publication of Ricouer’s doctoral dissertation, not so well known. Ricouer’s later work on metaphor came with his conviction that hermeneutics was not only applicable to “texts” but also to experiential life as text. Metaphor is the aspect of language that invites interpretation, and thus invites us to do hermeneutics. But Ricoeur went further, suggesting that we need to create new metaphors in order to keep language alive, to exercise our imagination, and to develop our capacity for interpretation.
I love his work on metaphor but am not acquainted with this work. Thank you for letting readers know about it.
